Black Desert: First PvE Boss Kill Video and Impressions
I got stomped.
I was able to fight enemies 2-4 levels above me easily, but it seemed the boss would require me to match him in battle, as he was by no means friendly, and no matter what tactics I pulled, from attempting to dodge the entire battle, to hiding up in the geometry of the walls attempting to kill him from out of range. This doesn't work by the way, it seems the enemies will forgo their usual pathing rules if you try to break them, and simply walk themselves up the wall at you to stomp on you, and it's hilarious to watch.
So I ground a little more, working my way through a few more quests and murdering whatever sweet, innocent, blood soaked creatures I came across, until I finally hit level 15. I grabbed more health potions and headed myself back to the target location, and began again. The bosses in BDO, it seems, are very keen to do as much damage to you as possible, dealing a lot of knock back and a handful of stun effects only if you do not use your dodges properly. Moving through the fight was mostly a balance of damage, dodging, switching in and out of combat, and using special skills in order to deal light debuffs to the enemy. His health bar, since I had not researched the creature, only gave a vague indication of my progress, until I attempted to kite him, this was a terrible idea. Kiting the bosses in an attempt to lead yourself into a move open area, results in them turning around, returning to their home location, and healing completely.
A little frustrated, I went back to attacking this enemy, and boy it took quite a while, about 12 minutes of bouncing around, dealing damage, and chugging health potions in order to kill a single mob. (I had spent 20 on my level 12 attempt and regretting that thoroughly) But, after finally downing the creature, I was rewarded with EXP, money, and a bow, as well as the completion of the quest. I was happy for the reward, but it made me think had I been another class, or had I been with a team, I would have felt a little more successful in my attempt. I suppose though that the point of BDO isn't to do these things alone, so I let the feeling pass. As I level up, I look forwards to fighting tougher and tougher bosses, hoping that I'll eventually reach the point that I need to reach out to my fellow DVS playtesters in order to combine and conquer.
