Bungie's Destiny Is A Record Breaking $500 Million Budget Project
Activision's CEO Bobby Kotick revealed at Milken conference that Bungie's upcoming online console shooter Destiny has a $500 million budget for game development, marketing, packaging, infrastructure support, royalties and more. Previous record was an estimated number of $260 million, owned by GTA5. Since Destiny covers both Sony and Microsoft's current-gen and next-gen consoles, and it's like an MMO that requires a lot of post-launch supports, it makes sense that Destiny costs so much.
For reference, BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic reportedly cost $200 million to develop, Blizzard's World of Warcraft spent $200 million on the first four years' post-launch support, and Trion World's Rift was said to cost $60m to $70m to develop and promote.
