Black Desert Mobile developer Pearl Abyss revealed some new details of the upcoming mobile version of Black Desert at IGC 2017, a game developer convention in South Korea. According to Pearl Abyss, Black Desert Mobile's story takes place 50 years before the events of the PC version, and the reason why they make a mobile version is to allow those who can't play the PC version to experience the features of the franchise — does that mean the mobile version will be free to play? "We planned to make the mobile version an MORPG at the beginning but we decided to make an MMORPG using the same engine," Pearl Abyss said.

The developer emphasized Black Desert Mobile was unlike other Asian mobile games that were designed to encourage players to pay. There won't be "5 Stars" or "SR" kind of rarity and ranking elements which induce in-app purchase. "Everybody in the company wants to see Black Desert Mobile on the top of the sales chart. But if we just think of making money we will lose our fans eventually," the developer stated.

Unlike the PC version, the mobile version is developed for global market from the ground up. Release date is to be announced.
