Zenimax Files Lawsuit Against Samsung for its Gear VR Headset
A couple of weeks ago, Zenimax Media threatened with legal actions a small indie studio called No Matter Studios regarding the name of their survival game - Prey of the Gods. Worried that they might lose their skills, the Zenimax lawyers spotted another target, this time a bigger one. This new case is related to the lawsuit that Zenimax intended to Oculus, in which the jury awarded Zenimax with $500 million.
Zenimax's new legal action aims Samsung, which worked together with Oculus on developing the Samsung Gear VR headset. The complaint claims that the Gear VR headset is "based upon Zenimax's intellectual property and includes information obtained by Samsung from Oculus, Luckey, and Carmack in violation of the NDA, Zenimax's copyrights, Carmack's employment agreement." Zenimax also states that "Samsung has used, and continues to utilize, Zenimax's VR technology (or derivatives thereof) that was misappropriated by Oculus."
Samsung's response to these allegations hasn't been made, but if we have in mind Zenimax's precedent, then the Korean multinational conglomerate will have a hard time on proving its innocence.
