Twilight Spirits: A Dungeon-Based MORPG Focuses on Ultimate Fun Actions
Twilight Spirtis, NetEase's latest 3D non-targeting MMORPG, will kick off the 1st technical closed beta in China on August 26th. If you have read our previous reports, you may think that Twilight Spirits looks like Revelation due to the similiar character and game scene design. But in fact, it's quite different from Revelation when it comes to core gameplay features.
We had a short talk with Twilight Spirits producer today and he told us although Revelation and Twilight Spirits are alll developed by NetEase so they might share some art material, Twilight Spirits is not very hardcore when it comes down to MMORPG elements. In fact, it is a dungeon-based action MMO. There are 60 dungeons with different style bosses inside, which means the gameplay in the early game is kinda simple - players just go challenge all kinds of dungeons, either in a single player or multi-player mode. The general game pace is fast. It won't require players to log in everyday and complete various daily quests, which may occupy players a lot of times. Instead, playing skills is more important in Twilight Spirits as the biggest selling point "Dragon Spirit Moment" will be shared in the whole party once it is triggered.
As for character skills, the whole system is not that complicated like other MMORPGs as well. Every character will only have 5 normal skills and 1 ultimate skill, pretty like MOBA game. For the endgame content, Arena PvP, Guild vs Guild would be the main point.
Twilight Spirits 1st closed beta will last for 2 weeks from August 26th and the game is slated for a December non-wipe open beta. Also the producer told us that there are some western publishers who are interested in Twilight Spirits after ChinaJoy so maybe we'll see an English version in the future?
By the way, back in May, NetEase's virtual reality game Twilight Pioneers was revealed at Google I/O 2016 as one of the first games to commit to Google’s new high quality mobile VR platform built on top of Android called Daydream. Info on that game is very limited but we learned today Twilight Pioneers is built based on Twilight Spirits and they shared the same game background and class design.
