Dota 2 Ti6 Prize Pool up to $18.5M, Breaks Its Own Record in eSport History
There are still two weeks to go before Dota 2 The International kicks off at the KeyArena in Seattle but the crowd-funded prize pool has been up to $18,565,494 at the time of writing, which means Dota 2 has done even better this year, surpassing last year’s watermark ($18,429,613) and becomes the tournament with largest pot in eSports history.
Among the total $1.85M prize pool, Valve itself put $1.6 million in the pot to keep the ball rolling and with the limited-time weekend sale for Ti6's Battle Pass, the prize pool just keeps increasing to new high numbers as 25% of the purchase price on all of this goes directly to The International prize pool. Valve even tempted players to buy Battle Pass by listing a special prize for surpassing the 2015 record: every Battle Pass owner will now receive three treasure chests with a random item of high in-game worth.
Dota 2: The International 2016 kicks off on August 13 in Seattle.
