League of Legends Tops 2015 Games’ Revenue Board by $1.6 Billion
SuperData, the leading market data analysis website, has just released a research today, including worldwide top 10 lists for the highest-grossing digital games of 2015. In 2015 the worldwide digital games market totals $61B across platforms, up 8% year-over-year. Among all three categories, League of Legend sits at the top by making over $1.6 billion in revenue last year.
League of Legends makes all its money in-game by champions, skins, and portraits, and players are available to purchase them with either Influence Points earned from playing games, or Riot Points purchased with real money. The largest market share leads to the domination in game market, let along the multiplayer online battle arena genre. The earning of League of Legends is around seven times larger than its closest MOBA competitor, Dota 2, which brough in $238 million in 2015.
