Hearthstone Interview: Jousting Will be a Counter to Rush Decks
Are you still worried about countering rush decks such as Turn 7 Hunter, Divine Favor Paladin and Mech mage in Hearthstone? Don't worry since the upcoming Hearthstone expansion The Grand Tournament will bring us a brand new “jousting” mechanic which is effective against aggro decks. At gamescom 2015, we interviewed Hearthstone Dev team and talked about Jousting, monthly rank bonus and more.
Inspire mechanic increases the immersion and diversity of the game
There are two new mechanics in The Grand Tournament expansion. The new Inspire keyword triggers after you use your Hero Power, and affects any friendly minions on the board that have the Inspire keyword. However, using hero power usually loses the board control. Why Blizzard design this mechanic?
“Hero Power is unique and we would like to let players immerse themselves in the class they choose” Hearthstone Dev team told us. Although the minions with inspire are usually less attack and health than the minions with same mana cost, the Inspire will make up for that. The longer inspire minions are on the board, the greater effect they will create. Inspire mechanic increases diversity of the game, therefore you have to choose your strategy wisely.
Jousting mechanic comes from World of Warcraft, and it can counter rush decks
Joust is an ability which causes a minion to be revealed at random from the deck of each player. If the player who initiated the Joust has the higher mana cost minion, a special secondary effect will be activated, depending on the Joust card. “The design comes from World of Warcraft, and we think two Knights wielding lances is interesting” Blizzard said. Well, the most important reason of adding Joust is countering rush decks since there are so many low mana cost cards in rush decks that probability of winning a joust is very low.
Monthly Ranked Play bonus contains golden card
Blizzard will be awarding players who progress past rank 20 with some minor bonus as a way of congratulating them for their achievements. They hope this will encourage players to continue plugging along until the end of the month. New tiered bonus depending on ladder position by the end-of-month, and they could be golden card, arcane dust and extra card back. Blizzard also stated that it’s Bonus rather than Rewards, and they hope players not take ladder position too seriously since the players with top ladder position won’t get other special rewards.
