Naoki Youshida: 80% of FFXIV Players Are Satisfied with Subscription Model
Final Fantasy XIV's producer Naoki Youshida spoke to Playstation Lifestyle at GDC this year and made comments on the business model of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. He pointed out that they had no plan to consider free-to-play model for the MMO which just surpassed 4 million registered users. He said the surveys they did indicate that 80% of the game's players were satisfied with the current model.
You are safe to be in that environment, and you know that you can expect a decent amount of updates and content. So, we don’t believe that FFXIV needs to shift in that direction and not everything that other competitors or titles do will necessarily apply to our title.
If WOW ever goes completely free-to-play, maybe we will consider it. (Laughs)
Naoki Youshida discussed the graphics and stories in the upcoming Heavensward expansion. He also talked about the new Specialist system and the changes of crafting. You can read the full interview here.
