Apocoplay's New CCG Is Seeking Money on Kickstarter
Digital collectible card games (CCG) seems to become a hugely popular mainstream genre now. After Blizzard's Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft and Cryptozoic's HEX, Boston-based indie Apocoplay has just launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund its new "turn-based tactics in a Japanese RPG-style" CCG Alteil: Horizons.
The Alteil: Horizons was adapted from a 2004 homonymic Japanese game Alteil. The original game has a ton of great ideas that surprised Apocoplay. In the Kickstarter's page, they praised Alteil that "as a digital collectable card game, it was way ahead of its time." This time, Apocoplay wanted to overcome some technical limitations and give it a modern look, bring a fresh life to this classic CCG. There's a universe of over 1,000 cards to choose from, and you can preview the full card profiles on their official site.
The development of Alteil Horizons will lead by the creators of Star Ocean & Valkyrie Profile. Other fellows are Japanese and American game veterans, who have worked on Pacific Rim, Legend of Zelda, Final Fantasy X, Phantasy Star and many other well-published games.
Apocoplay is seeking $100,000 for Alteil: Horizons' development, and they have received about $8000 yet.
