Exclusive High Mana Cost Cards of Mage
As for Mage, the explosive damage and powerful abilities of battlefield-clearing and controlling are its “main force”. This article focuses on Mage’s exclusive ability cards, hoping it can enlighten the extensive Hearthstone players. Please feel freely to correct me if there is anything wrong.
Advantages: Blizzard is one of Mage’s main abilities, and it looks like the upgraded version of Cone of Cold. With powerful abilities of battlefield-clearing and controlling, this card can deal a considerable damage after cooperate with those minions which can provide spell BUFF, besides, it make a well preparation for the combo attack of Ice Lance. Regarding the mana cost, compared with Shaman’s Lightning Storm(Deal 2-3 damage to all enemy minions. Overload: 2), which actually cost 5 mana, and there is no effect of battlefield controlling, Blizzard costs 5 mana is completely acceptable.
Defects: 1. It can’t deal damage to the enemy hero; 2. At the middle stage of the battle, the HP of enemy minions with 4-6 mana cost usually more than 2, so the single use of Blizzard can’t deal a fatal damage to them, resulting in fail to achieve the target of battlefield-clearing.
Advantages: This is another powerful ability of battlefield-clearing, compared with Blizzard, Flamestrike deals more damage, which is likely to clear most enemy minions away, the shortage is it lacks control effect, but there is no significance to control the enemies if it can knock out them directly. Flamestrike should be the most powerful ability as a battlefield-clearing skill, and its cost performance is acceptable.
Defects: 1. Same with the Blizzard, it can’t attack the enemy hero; 2. The 7 mana cost is a little too much.
Advantages: Pyroblast is an ability that deals the biggest damage to a single target in Hearthstone, which can directly kill an enemy minion which is without any BUFF, or cut down one third HP of the enemy hero, especially at the later stage of the battle, it will be a fatal attack. Regarding the 8 mana cost, when you get 10 mana at the later stage, there are 2 mana left for you to play a card after use the Pyroblast, and the ways to deal extra damage are a lot, such as the hero can deal 1 damage, and the Arcane Missiles and Ice Lance are also available. These abilities can attack both the enemy hero and minions. Theoretically speaking, the biggest damage you can deal is Arcane Missiles*2 + Pyroblast, the 16 damages in total within one turn. While the 8 mana cost is reasonable for this powerful card.
Defects: The main defect is the excessive damage when attack an ordinary enemy minion. Besides, given the 8 mana cost, the Pyroblast only can be used at the later stage, but then, the combo attack of multiple cards maybe not worse than it, so you need to make a judgment and choice at that time.
