World of Warcraft May Be Going to Buy to Play, What do you think?
Today, Blizzard talked about what’s coming up with Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.1 in the next year. The patch, which will go into testing soon, will contain improvements to garrisons, a legendary follower, the ability to send tweets from the game, the new Blood Elf models, shorter flight master routes, incentives for visiting friends' garrisons, and the new heirloom collection tab. But compare with these changes, the bigger news is Blizzard propose to implement a subscription currency that allows players to buy and sell their game-time tokens for in-game gold with other players.

We’re exploring the possibility of giving players a way to buy tradable game-time tokens for the purpose of exchanging them in-game with other players for gold. Our current thought on this is that it would give players a way to use their surplus gold to cover some of their subscription cost, while giving players who might have less play time an option for acquiring gold from other players through a legit and secure system. A few other online games offer a similar option, and players have suggested that they’d be interested in seeing something along those lines in WoW. We agree it could be a good fit for the game, and we look forward to any feedback you have as we continue to look into this feature.
For the propose idea, different people have different opinions. The agreed players thought the idea may protect the in-game gold market from the botter, scrammer, etc.
Besides, this measure may win back some AFKers who didn't want to pay too much money for WoW.
Of course, there are also many objections. Some players thought the measure may increase the risk of players' accounts.
And it may lead WoW to be a pay-to-win game.
Personally, I supports this idea. It can not only save the money for the causal players, but also give the hardcore players more ways to get key equipment (Black Auction). Besides, most of players have tons of gold but no way to use them. This idea can also consume players’ gold and curb inflation.
About the idea, what do you think?
